12. Yamaha NS-10T Natural Sound Monitors/Speakers

6 ohm 2 way speakers. They sound nice. Very clean with no color at all. They are unforgiving. You don't want to use these with a reel to reel or cassette. Every imperfection in the source is revealed with these.

Nice little speakers that are a WHOLE LOT cheaper than the pro series NS-10M Yamahas.
NS-10M's can go for $400 to nearly $1000. You can pick up a pair of NS-10T's for $75 to $100.

I don't know what the MSRP is for either model of those two 1980's gems.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that they were made in the U.S.A.

  1. Your comment: "You don't want to use these with a reel to reel or cassette. Every imperfection in the source is revealed with these."

This statement is ridiculous. When these speakers came out tape and vinyl was all we had. It may be that you would instead want to avoid digital sources with these speakers because of digital's inherent harsh upper mid and high frequencies.

  2. I understand your point, but that was then, this is now. The difference being that most people aren't using new vinyl. The existing vinyl that can be easily found in yardsales and Goodwills are not in the best of condition. The situation with magnetic tape is even worse. Being that these speakers are unforgiving, I think CDs sound better with these than crappy 30 year old cassettes! Think about it.

  3. I have a pair of Yamaha NS-10's, I was very fortunate to find them at a Goodwill I was working for. With my employee discount, I paid less than ten dollars for the two. I LOVE THEM!! I use them as my computer speakers, I have an MCS Series Stereo Amplifier between my computer and the speakers. I got it surplus from a church that had just purchased a bran new public address system. Betwixt the Yamaha NS-10's and that amplifier, I am VERY PLEASED with my computer's sound, it is usually playing classical music. These are two of the BEST speakers I have EVER heard, and having worked in the Broadcast Industry, as well as Public Address, I have heard a LOT of speakers!!

  4. I play mp3s through these powered by a Bryston 4B. It's jaw dropping how amazing how Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath sound through this pair.
